Alumni/ae relation is the Common Data Set term for legacy status: having a parent, grandparent, or sibling who attended the school. The legacy preference has been shrinking — a growing list of colleges has dropped it entirely, and some states have restricted it by law — so the C7 grid is the quickest way to see who still considers it. "Not considered" means a family connection plays no role.
1 college in the dataset did not report this factor in their CDS filing.
A preference some colleges give applicants whose parents (sometimes grandparents or siblings) attended the school — listed on the Common Data Set as "alumni/ae relation". Where it exists it is a tip factor among qualified applicants, not a guarantee.
The "not considered" list on this page is the current answer from each school’s own Common Data Set filing. The list has grown steadily as colleges have abandoned the preference and several states have restricted it by law.
